When I heard Tealskie's first track PARASITE, I was pleasantly surprised. The vocals by lead singer, Rebekah Pemberton, were particularly impressing and much of the emotion of that track is conveyed lyrically. So when the band sent through an early copy of Flown Away, I was naturally excited. Their debut as a band sounds a lot less crunchy than PARASITE, instead opting for a more vulnerable tone. Tim Miller's guitar performance stands out on this track as each note follows the emotional highs and lows of getting over heartbreak. I sat down with Rebekah to talk about the formation of the band and their new track.

This is your debut single as a band, why did you decide to switch from solo artist?

I decided to make the switch from solo to band as I slowly started realising that it would become harder to solidify a solid sound that really represented me and replicate it at all of the gigs/events. I met with Josh, Tim and Wilkie as we practiced for my debut gig and then the feeling of euphoria as we all played together kicked in and I knew I needed to make Tealskie into a band, a decision I’m beyond glad I made!

What is 'Flown Away' about?

I wrote 'Flown Away' from the perspective of myself reflecting on relationships I’ve had with multiple people in my life. I recently went through a break up with a partner of many years and through that, I also lost my best friend. Losing two people at once was a hard pill to swallow. But it also brought on so much self reflection about myself within the relationships.

Alongside all of this, I also lost another friend in my life who I felt dragged my best friend away from me. This created an internal mind-fuck as I tried to figure out how to navigate these friendships/try to repair them. I sat there sobbing and writing 'Flown Away' and as all the words came to me, a massive sense of relief did too. This was my way of saying goodbye, respectfully, but also allowing myself to start the long journey of healing. It’s truthfully encapsulated all of my overwhelming feelings into a beautiful psychedelic track that genuinely takes you on a journey.

Flown Away is a song for when you’re feeling nostalgic, heartbroken, hopeful and reflective. A track for youth to help understand themselves.

Where can we catch it live?
